Where I serve

I will be serving at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas for this upcoming school year. I am honored to be serving as a missionary on the campus that FOCUS was launched on twenty years ago.

My Story

I gave up my Catholic faith during my senior year of high school, so when I started my freshman year (Fall 2013) at Tulane University in New Orleans, God was the last thing on my mind. My freshman year consisted of the typical college experience, filled with partying and the pursuit of alcohol, drugs, and sex. However, I felt empty.

Steeped in this emptiness, my friend Austin (who is Catholic and had been invested in by Tulane's FOCUS missionaries) invited me to Eucharistic Adoration on a random Sunday in the January of my sophomore year (2015). At this time, I didn't believe in the Real Presence of the Eucharist, and I thought the idea of a piece of bread becoming Jesus' flesh was crazy. However, when I walked into that Adoration chapel, something started stirring in my heart: I began encountering something I had never encountered before, and it had something to do with the Eucharist. Confused and curious about this piece of bread that Catholics believe to be the literal Body, Soul, and Divinity of Christ, I began to tag along with Austin more frequently and go to Adoration more frequently (to the point where I was going every day).

Eventually, Austin invited me to Mass and to a FOCUS Bible Study. I encountered a community of Catholic college students that had legitimate life rushing through them. They were joyful, had purpose, and I wanted to get more involved. Slowly, I began integrating myself back into the Catholic faith during the Spring of my Sophomore year. Eventually, I was so on fire because of the encounter I had with Christ in the Eucharist that I wanted to share the faith. During my Junior and Senior years at Tulane, with the help of the FOCUS missionaries, I led a Bible study and intentionally invested in other people in my life in order to share Christ with them.

I felt a call to be a FOCUS missionary in the Summer of 2016 while I was taking the MCAT and applying to medical schools. I received a great blessing by getting into medical school during the Fall of my senior year (2016). However, I still had this desire to be a FOCUS missionary. I asked the medical school if they would grant me a two-year deferral to be a missionary. They granted me this request, and I am so grateful for it! I look forward to these next two years and I can't wait for what the Lord has in store. Everyone needs to hear the Good News and the true joy that Christ has to offer them, and it is a true honor to labor in His work.

Your Impact

When I answered the call to join FOCUS, I made the decision to rely on the spiritual and financial support of mission partners (AKA donors) to help make this mission a reality. I've been blessed with the most amazing people who have journeyed with me as I serve on campus. If you are interested in partnering with me, please let me know of the best way to reach you and I will schedule an appointment. I'd be honored to share this mission with you.
