Where I serve

It is my joy to serve at Emporia State University, a small school of about 4,000 undergrad students known for its excellent education program. I love meeting students in the Union, hanging out with people at the cafeteria, and enjoying the beautiful Kansas weather. My home away from home is the Didde Catholic Campus Center, a thriving chapel and community center, where you can usually find good friends, lively conversation, and tasty snacks. I live in the Neri House, a men's household, with four roommates and one wooden duck named Doug.

My Story

When I was ten, I wanted to be an astronaut president. Today my dreams are much bigger--I want to spread the gospel of God! But I'm getting ahead of myself. After the astronaut thing didn't pan out, I went from being a cradle Catholic to a distracted and disillusioned college student. In the summer of 2013, I was a missionary at a summer camp called Covecrest, but those missionary seeds were quickly choked out by the anxieties and selfishness of the modern world. I knew that Jesus was real, but I was torn between His call to greatness and the daily grip of mediocrity and pride.

In the fall of my senior year, I met a team of FOCUS missionaries. Their personal virtue, zeal for the Gospel, and selfless love touched my heart in a radical way, and I remembered what it felt like when I'd first fallen in love with Jesus. God had built me a car and filled it up with fuel, but I'd been sitting in the parking lot--the missionaries finally turned the key. The missionary zeal planted in my heart by Christ finally moved from emotion to action. Now I want nothing more than to set fire to young people's hearts in the same way.

As a missionary, my greatest desire is to lead all students to Christ. My life has been transformed by Jesus and I want nothing more than to bring this joy to others and introduce them to the life-changing message of the Gospel. In His ministry on earth, Jesus humbled Himself to meet us on our level, taking on our humanity, and spent most of His time investing deeply in a few. I look to Jesus’ own example to find the best method of reaching the world. I've been constantly amazed by the different souls I've encountered on campus.

Your Impact

When I answered the call to join FOCUS, I made the decision to rely on the spiritual and financial support of mission partners to help me through this mission. I've been blessed with the most amazing people who have journeyed with me as I serve on campus. If you are interested in partnering with me, please let me know of the best way to reach you and I will schedule an appointment. I'd be honored to share this mission with you.
