Where I serve

I am so excited that God has called me to serve my first year with FOCUS at George Washington University in DC. I am looking forward to meeting the students He will put in my life this year and bringing them into deeper union with Jesus Christ through Bible studies, retreats, prayer, and friendship!

My Story

“Do not be afraid. Do not be satisfied with mediocrity. Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” ~ St. John Paul II

I’ve never been satisfied with mediocrity. All my life, I’ve pushed myself to settle for nothing less than my best. As an undergraduate at Harvard, I was not alone in that mentality. I’m sure, though, that such an incessant drive to always to do better and to never let myself falter would have consumed me and robbed me of my joy, especially at a place like Harvard. For that reason, I am so grateful that a FOCUS missionary reached out to me during my freshman year of college and simply began a friendship with me. She wanted to learn more about me and listen to what I had to share. She wanted to love me, not because I had something to offer her or because I had reached any level of perfection, but simply because I was worthy of love. Her authentic friendship and investment in me blew me away, and I wanted to know why she lived the way she lived.

As our friendship grew, that missionary invited me into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ. I had grown up Catholic, but it wasn’t until she showed me what it was like to truly know Christ that I began to actually live my faith. My life was transformed as I discovered my identity as a daughter of God, and I felt infinitely more joyful and free than I ever had before. I have chosen to become a FOCUS missionary myself because I desire so strongly to invite other college students to experience the peace that comes from the knowledge that you are loved by God Himself. On college campuses plagued by loneliness, depression, substance abuse, and purposelessness, students are thirsting to know the Truth of the Gospel – that they are loved beyond comprehension and made for so much more than this world.

I want to push students to strive for much more than mediocrity, but not just in their studies and extracurriculars. I want to push them to pursue excellence in all things with the knowledge that Christ, their only strength, will take them to heights they never dreamed they could reach. Investing in young people is the way to change the world, and I am so excited to see how God continues to move the hearts and minds of college students through my work with FOCUS.

Your Impact
