Where I serve

This Texas girl is heading back to the mid-west for her second year with FOCUS at Southeast Missouri State University! Two of my teammates, Trevor and Tori, will also be returning to SEMO.  New to our team is a second year missionary Connor Wurth, his wife Jennifer, and new baby Isabelle Grace!

My Story

As a freshman at Baylor University I knew God loved me, and even loved God and wanted and tried to live a faithful life, but didn’t know how. I experienced an ever-present thirst for something more and frustration at not having it.  My sophomore year FOCUS came to campus, and a missionary became my friend.  She challenged me to commit to daily prayer, frequent reception of the sacraments (“efficacious signs of grace, instituted by Christ and entrusted to the Church, by which divine life is dispensed to us.” CCC 1131), and forming virtuous friendships in a virtuous community.  The Lord changed my entire outlook on life, and the very essence of my heart as He poured and continues to pour more and more of His Heart into mine.

As I came to experience and be changed by the Love of Christ, I desired others to know this life-changing love.  Thus Christ's Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20) to make Him known became very important to me.

After undergrad I was accepted into Baylor’s Speech-Language Pathology masters program and decided to live my faith and further the New Evangelization by pursuing a career in this field.  Jesus used that year in many ways, one of them being intensely growing my desire to do full-time ministry with FOCUS.  I loved serving the needs of others as a Speech Pathologist, but I also missed and longed for having more time to devote to focused efforts to spread what our world is in most desperate need of, the love of Christ.  So much so that I applied to be a full-time missionary with FOCUS, was accepted, and God gave me great and lasting peace to say "yes."

Your Impact

FOCUS exists to answer Christ's Great Commission, and  Pope Benedict XVI's call for the New Evangelization, which is "the re-proposing of the Gospel 'to those regions awaiting the first evangelization and to those regions where the roots of Christianity are deep but who have experienced a serious crisis of faith due to secularization.' The New Evangelization invites each Catholic to renew their relationship with Jesus Christ and his Church." (USCCB) The "secularization" mentioned in this quote refers to the devastating effects our culture has had on our souls, seen in things such as increasing suicide rates, sex-trafficking, etc. FOCUS gets to the root of these issues by bringing the love of Christ to college students, where our future leaders are threatened by the culture of death. We invite these students into authentic friendship centered on Christ, and challenge them to dispose themselves to receive life-changing love. I’ve seen Christ working through FOCUS’ model of spiritual multiplication, teaching teachers to teach, work miracles in my life and the lives of so many others. It truly changes college Catholic centers, entire universities, and is beginning root-out the culture of death from members of our Church and our world.

May God, who is never out-done in generosity, bless you for your contribution to His work. Praise Him for furthering His kingdom through your "yes" to support this mission!
