Where I serve

Heading into my second year as a missionary God has called me to serve at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia! It has been such a blessing  life to serve at Columbia University this past year! You'll typically find me hanging out with students talking about politics, at the Newman Center praying for you all, or talking with students about the faith on campus. I have a profound story about how Jesus has changed my life -- I think you should hear it sometime! Come find me and I'd love to share it with you!

My Story

Growing up if someone would have told me I would be traveling to New York City and Virginia after college to become a Catholic college missionary, I would have called them crazy!! However, having a deep encounter with our Lord during my freshmen year at the University of Miami changed my life forever. As a child I was raised by two loving parents who instilled the importance of faith and discipline in my daily life. I always knew about my faith on an intellectual level going to Catholic grade school and graduating from a all boy jesuit high school, however it wasn't until I attended college that my knowledge of Christ went from the head to the heart.

During the Spring semester of my freshmen year at the University of Miami I rediscovered my identity as son of God on our Spring College Retreat. From that moment I began to take my faith seriously and truly strive to put the Lord first in my life. As a missionary, my greatest desire is to lead all students to Christ. My life has been transformed by Jesus and I want nothing more than to bring this joy to others and introduce them to the life-changing message of the Gospel. In His ministry on earth, Jesus humbled Himself to meet us on our level, taking on our humanity, and spent most of His time investing deeply in a few. I look to Jesus’ own example to find the best method of reaching the world.

This past year I had the opportunity to serve the students at Columbia University. Once on campus I realized quickly how small our community was and how much the students were missing an encounter with the Lord. I worked with two main disciples, John and Charlie, teaching and leading them into a deeper relationship with the Lord. In addition, I lead a few bible studies where we talked about growing as christian male leaders through chastity, sobriety, and excellence. One big highlight was welcoming Rui into the Catholic faith by being his and two others sponsor through RCIA. Although a difficult campus, my team and I bore a lot of fruit this past year by increasing male participation from 4-25 and creating a community based on christ centered friendships.

As a result of my success at Columbia, FOCUS has called me to move to George Mason University this upcoming fall to head up hispanic outreach. FOCUS has launched FOCUS latino in the hopes to reach out to more hispanics in our country. Due to my cuban heritage and work at Columbia, FOCUS asked me to take on this new role at Mason and I could not be more excited! Please pray for me and my new family as we seek to help students have a radical encounter with Christ that will change their lives like the Lord changed mine!

Your Impact

When I answered the call to join FOCUS, I made the decision to rely on the spiritual and financial support of mission partners to help me through this mission. I've been blessed with the most amazing people who have journeyed with me as I serve on campus. If you are interested in partnering with me, please let me know of the best way to reach you and I will schedule an appointment. I'd be honored to share this mission with you.
