Hey! My name's Sean. I'm a FOCUS missionary.
Hey! My name's Sean. I'm a FOCUS missionary.
I am in my tenth year with FOCUS and a senior formation specialist serving on our Formation Team as the New Staff Training Coordinator. I am working year round to prepare for the five week long formation and training of our first and second-year campus staff. I work out of our main office in Genesee, CO. Please come up and visit at the office!
Being raised a Catholic I always took for granted the gift of faith and the formation I received from my family. I rarely question God or the teachings of the Church and found great excitement in learning as much as I could and sharing it with any interested in listening. It was my freshman year, in preparation for Confirmation, that I decided that being a Catholic would be the most important reality of my life and would decide everything. I desired to live this reality as best I could. In high school everyone knew I was Catholic, and I had to defend why from time to time. This trend continued into my time at Regis University. It was there, on a college campus, that I first began to realize the disparity between those who have faith, a faith that directs their life, purpose and identity, and those who don't and are enslaved to a misguided pursuit of all those things. I sought to live as faithfully as I could, albeit with a limited understanding of the moral life. For this reason I was lead astray, as many college student are, and into a life of parties and drinking, unaware of the duplicity of this life. It wasn't until a friend challenged me in a profound and very difficult way that I realized I was living contrary to the identity purchased for me by Christ. I was not living as an adopted son of the Father. In this realization was freedom. A freedom many of my peers did not have, and a freedom that most college students are unaware of. I decided once again to live for Christ and commit myself to Him.
For this reason, when approached my senior year to become a FOCUS missionary, I had to accept. For the first six years with focus I served as a campus missionary. By first assignment was at Benedictine college in Atchison, KS where I worked with athletes as a Varsity Catholic missionary for four years. I then moved out east and served a team of missionaries as the team director at the University of Vermont for two years. It was and still is my greatest desire is to lead all students to Christ. My life has been transformed by Jesus and I want nothing more than to bring this joy to others and introduce them to the life-changing message of the Gospel. This desire is what motivated me on campus and what continues to motivate me in my current position as New Staff Training Coordinator.
In this position, as mentioned above, I have the privilege to serve our campus staff by forming them and enabling them to fulfill Jesus's call to make disciples of all nations. In His ministry on earth, Jesus humbled Himself to meet us on our level, taking on our humanity, and spent most of His time investing deeply in a few. At New Staff Training(NST) this is exactly what we prepare our staff to do, through their formation and training, so they too can look to Jesus’ own example to find the best method of reaching the world. I've been constantly amazed by the different souls I've encountered on campus and on staff. It is an honor and privilege to serve this apostolate by forming and training our staff in preparation for the demands of the mission field of the college campus. In many ways, preparing them for a ministry of unrequited love.
I am not alone in this mission, or in my desire for your support. My wife Emily and I are currently expecting our first child, a little boy, this October! We are excited to continue serving the Church through the apostolate of FOCUS and are extremely grateful for your generosity. Please consider joining us in this mission through your financial partnership.
When I answered the call to join FOCUS, I made the decision to rely on the spiritual and financial support of mission partners to help me through this mission. I've been blessed with the most amazing people who have journeyed with me as I served on campus and continue to serve from our office. Your partnership directly impacts hundreds of missionaries, and therefore thousands of students around the country. If you are interested in partnering with me, please let me know of the best way to reach you and I will schedule an appointment. I'd be honored to share this mission with you.
