This year we are serving at Towson University. This is FOCUS's third year at Towson and we're so blessed to be joined in mission by three other missionaries this year. Are you at Towson too? We'd love to meet you, share life, and hear your story!
Steven: I was raised Catholic by faithful and loving parents. Unfortunately, although I grew up knowing a lot about Jesus Christ, I didn't know Him. At fifteen, I decided to leave the Church, and for twelve years I wandered in the moral and spiritual wilderness. I thought I would find happiness through cultural pursuits, romantic love, and career success. I tried to be good when it was convenient, and when it wasn't convenient I didn't worry about it too much. In January of 2013, I came to a startling realization. I saw that even if I achieved every goal I had set for myself, even if I got everything my selfishness demanded, I still wouldn't have the happiness I desired. Not knowing what else to do, I started asking people to pray for me. I wasn't sure I even believed in God, but I figured if supernatural help was available, I certainly could use some. God in his goodness answered those prayers in a dramatic way. I found myself moved to learn more about the faith I had abandoned, and after much prayer and study I could no longer deny that the Holy Spirit was calling me home. On July 19th, 2013 I made my first confession in over a decade. That encounter with Christ's merciful love set me on the path I'm now walking. It's not always easy, but I know that with Christ's help I can overcome any obstacles.
Amber: I grew up on a farm outside Village of Pleasant Hill in southwestern Ohio with my parents and one older brother. I came to northwest Ohio for college, and it was here that I was first introduced to the beauty, the truth, and the goodness of the Catholic Church. I had always found a friend in Jesus and I began to find so much more. I set my eyes on becoming a saint and my life hasn't been the same since. With one adventure after another, I wouldn't give up this journey for the world.
We're so blessed by this opportunity to serve college students, FOCUS, the Church, and our Lord. "Like a flame which enlightens and warms, like an Angel of his heart who will go to proclaim him to those who don't know him and will encourage those who love him and are suffering." ~ St. Peter Julian Eymard
"The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.” Your work, prayers, and support are so critical to this mission. When we answered the call to join FOCUS, we made the decision to rely on the spiritual and financial support of mission partners to make our mission possible. We've been blessed with the most amazing people who have journeyed with us as we serve on campus. If you are interested in partnering with us, please let us know of the best way to reach you and we will schedule an appointment. We'd be honored to share this mission with you!
