Position Summary

The event specialist is a coordinator in the vision, development, programming and execution of our national conferences, leadership summits, and partner events.  Additionally, the role would coordinate and execute many smaller events for the organization throughout the year (the department plans 15-20 annually), as well as advise internally about events, vendor contracts and payments.  The Events Department within FOCUS is a specialist in transforming ordinary events into formational opportunities to strongly boost FOCUS’ work on campus.

Position Responsibilities

  • Passion to create transformative, innovative events with a high degree of excellence
  • Committee Chair for planning and implementation for national conferences and conventions (up to and exceeding 15,000 attendees)
  • Interdepartmental event  development
  • Project management for coordination of details and people involved in particular event
  • Ability to lead and participate within a team and deliver integrated solutions to drive development, execution and analysis
  • Meet regularly with Event Manager to communicate goals and collaborate on work
  • Registration development and communication
  • Provides strong, creative and energetic leadership
  • Production and audio visual coordination; show development
  • Networks with vendors and other meeting planners, as well as build strong relationships with vendors
  • Contract negotiation and review
  • Budget creation, accountability and rectification
  • Supports the mission of FOCUS on the college campus and works selflessly to help the mission

Position Requirements

Knowledge and Experience

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in any field, preferably hospitality or a related field
  • Previous event planning experience
  • Understanding and affinity for the FOCUS vision and the teachings of the Catholic Church
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Personal initiative and motivation
  • Proven organizational skills
  • Strong customer service and hospitality attitude
  • Microsoft Office Suite, including: Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • The ability to interact with team in a fast paced environment, sometimes under pressure, while remaining responsive and efficient with a high level of professionalism and joy
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at a time
  • Contract negotiation skills and budget tracking ability, as well as event related costing
  • Strong event protocol/process and production knowledge
  • Ability to learn quickly and integrate knowledge
  • Strong understanding of project management


The Events Specialist position is compensated within the guidelines of FOCUS.
