Chaplain, Rensselaer Polytechnic University

Paulist Fr. Larry Rice is a veteran Catholic campus minister and a leader in faith-based communications. He currently serves as the chaplain of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute since 2021. In that capacity he is the campus leader for Catholic Campus Ministry, as well as the director of Religious Affairs and chaplain for the entire campus community. RPI is one of the nation’s leading technology and research institutes, and one of the oldest, founded in 1824. Its nearly 7500 students study primarily science, engineering, architecture, and information technologies.  The Chapel + Cultural Center at RPI was founded in 1968 to provide facilities for both faith-based activities, and performing- and visual-arts. The University Parish of Christ Sun of Justice resides at the Chapel + Cultural Center. Fr. Rice works to further an integrated vision of Campus Ministry that is based on the Paulist Father’s core mission of Evangelization, Reconciliation, Ecumenism, and Interfaith Dialogue. 

Fr. Larry Rice previously served as Director of the University Catholic Center at the University of Texas in Austin TX from 2016-2020.  He has previously served as the Director of Vocations for the Paulist Fathers (2013-2016) and as the Paulists’ First Consultor (2010 -2014), and a member of the Presidential Board of the Paulists, the team responsible for the administration and governance of the Paulists. In addition, while First Consultor also served as the the director of St. Mary’s on the Lake, the Paulist summer retreat on Lake George, NY.

Fr. Rice is a member of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. His professional associations have included UNDA-USA (the national association of Church media professionals), Catholic Campus Ministry Association, National Catholic Development Conference, Conference of Major Superiors of Men, and the National Religious Vocations Conference.
