Mother Louise Marie Flanigan, S.S.E.W.
Mother Superior, Sister Servants
A native of New York City, Mother Louise Marie Flanigan graduated from Dartmouth College in 1978. She subsequently worked in teaching in New York City and Chicago private schools and also for several years in fundraising in New York City for a Latin American basic literacy program. After meeting Mother Mary Gabriel Long and her beginning community of the Sister Servants of the Eternal Word, Mother Louise Marie joined the Sister Servants in Birmingham, Alabama in 1989. The Sisters began building their Convent and Retreat House in 1993 and initiated their apostolate of catechesis and retreats in 1996. They have expanded into virtual retreats during the pandemic. Mother Louise Marie served for many years as director of the Retreat House, and after Mother Mary Gabriel’s death in 2017, Mother Louise Marie was elected in August 2018 as Superior of the Sister Servants of the Eternal Word. She has followed and encouraged the work of FOCUS for many years.
