Samuel B. LaVergne

Founder and President, Hunter Buildings

Samuel B. LaVergne, president of Hunter Buildings, has been an important figure in the blast-resistant building industry for nearly 20 years. He was instrumental in the conception, design, and manufacturing of Hunter Building’s blast-resistant buildings for use in refineries and petrochemical plants. Since 1997, Sam has played a key role in the growth and demand of Hunter’s quality products and services.

Sam received his doctorate of jurisprudence in 1989 from Louisiana State University, preceded by a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Louisiana Tech University. He began his professional career as an attorney focusing on environmental, health & safety issues. Sam’s wealth of education and practical experience eventually led him to the unique industry in which he serves today. 

Sam is passionate about his faith, family, community and his extensive dual career in environmental law and the refining/petrochemical industry. Sam is an active member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and is affiliated with several industry organizations. Also, Sam has been active in Legatus, previously serving as president of the Baton Rouge chapter and currently as a member of the national Board of Governors.  He and his wife Sally live in Houston, Texas, where they raised their four children and participate in various civic and community activities.
