Tom Tauke retired as executive vice president at Verizon Communications Inc. In this role, Tauke served as the company’s senior policy executive and oversaw media relations, employee communications, reputation management, philanthropy, corporate responsibility, and external relations.
Tauke was a Member of Congress, representing Northeast Iowa in the United States House of Representatives from 1979 to 1991. He represented Dubuque in the Iowa General Assembly from 1975 to 1979.
Tauke serves on the boards of Iowa Values; the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget; the Bipartisan Policy Center Action Network; Fix the Debt; and the Free State Foundation. He is a member of the Board and past chair of BIPAC; serves as chair of the Executive Committee of the Board of Jobs for America’s Graduates, an organization that currently serves 75,000 at-risk youth; chairs the editorial board of the Ripon Forum; and is a member and past chair of the Board of Regents of Loras College. He served on the board and Executive Committee and as a senior fellow of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce; chaired the board of the United States Telecom Association; and has served on the boards of several other non-profit organizations.
He is a member of Nativity Parish in Burke, Virginia, where he teaches CCD, and the St. Paul Forum of the Diocese of Arlington.
Tauke received his B.A. from Loras College in 1972 and his J.D. from the University of Iowa College of Law.
He and his wife, Beverly, have two adult children and one grandchild.
