My Story

The story about how I discerned my calling to be a FOCUS missionary is unlike other's stories because I did not attend a University with a FOCUS team. I graduated May 2019 from the University of St Thomas in St Paul, MN with a degree in Catholic Studies. I was introduced to FOCUS at a young age because of my parent's willingness to support a local missionary, however, I never really knew the model that FOCUS uses on campus. My first two years of college were spent as a seminarian for the Diocese of Sioux Falls, SD at UST. During my sophomore year, I had the opportunity to attend the SEEK 2017 conference in San Antonio, TX. It was here that I was introduced to FOCUS Missions and got plugged in to going on a mission trip over my spring break to Mexico City. This trip introduced me to Jake Leins who was the director of the mission trip. Watching him interact with the people we worked with and the time he took to invest in those of us on the trip placed the desire to be a missionary on my heart. At the end of the trip, Jake and I shared a long Uber ride to the airport where I asked him all about FOCUS.

Above is the group photo from our trip to Mexico City.

A year after the mission trip, I had the opportunity to study abroad for a semester in Rome. During this semester, we had a silent retreat where, with the help of Fr John Nepil, I discerned that God was calling me to apply to be a missionary. My Senior year of school, I got involved with Digital Campus through FOCUS which is designed for students without a FOCUS team on their campus. My discipler, Peter, helped me with the application process and a few months later I was offered a position as a full-time missionary! There is no doubt in my mind that I am where God wants me to be at this moment in my life.

Your Impact

When I answered the call to join FOCUS, I made the decision to rely on the spiritual and financial support of mission partners to help me through this mission. I've been blessed with the most amazing people who have journeyed with me as I serve on campus. If you are interested in partnering with me, please let me know of the best way to reach you and I will schedule an appointment. I'd be honored to share this mission with you.
