Where I serve

God has called me to serve as a missionary with the Fellowship of Catholic University Students (FOCUS) at the United States Naval Academy! I know that He has called me there for a very specific purpose. I'm looking forward to encountering the students where they are, revealing to them the love that God has for them, and walking with them on their journey to Heaven. Servant of God Father Vincent Capodanno, pray for us!

My Story

I grew up in the town of South Windsor, Connecticut, with my mom, dad, and siblings - Connor (younger brother) and Rhianna (younger sister). Life was amazing growing up. I was blessed with an incredible and big extended family, a great school system, the opportunity to go on vacation every year to Bethany Beach, Delaware, a talent for sports, and many other gifts. And when it was time to go to college, I was accepted to my first choice for school: the University of Maryland (Go Terps!).

My college experience was everything that I had hoped for. I performed excellently in class, had a great group of friends, went to Guatemala, London, and Paris for spring breaks, and studied abroad in Madrid, Spain. But I also had my first taste of profound suffering. Leaving my family was more difficult than I had ever imagined. I struggled with intense homesickness which progressed into depression. This lasted through my freshman, sophomore, and junior years.

During this suffering, I began to grow in my Catholic faith. I had been raised Catholic and received all of the Sacraments through Confirmation, but I didn't know how to pray (and never did), and I had never heard of the concept of "Having a relationship with God". But through my roommate's witness to Jesus Christ along with the witness of the FOCUS missionaries at the University of Maryland (UMD), I encountered the love of God and the person of Jesus Christ for the first time in my life.

At SEEK (FOCUS's annual national conference) in 2019 in Indianapolis, God stirred in my heart the desire to be a missionary. I remember having conversations with peers and missionaries telling them that when I graduated, I wanted to be a missionary. But after arriving back at UMD, I didn't think much about it.

It wasn't until my Junior year, after being sent home from Madrid due the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, that in conversations with one of the FOCUS missionaries serving at UMD, the desire for mission was reawakened in my heart. During prayer on the Feast day of St. Catherine of Sienna, I experienced a strong call from God to serve as a FOCUS missionary after graduation.

A little over a year after that day, I have graduated from UMD, begun this mission, and just arrived in Annapolis to finish training with my team before students arrive for the start of the semester. I am grateful for this next step in my life and the opportunity to witness to the faith, love with the heart of Christ, invite the students at USNA into a relationship with Jesus Christ and His Church, and walk with them on their journey to be saints in Heaven (which we are all called to be!).

Your Impact

As a FOCUS missionary, I also am blessed to have the opportunity to invite others to partner with me on this mission to fulfill the great commission - to "Make disciples of all nations" (Mt. 28:19) - through their spiritual and financial support.

As St. Mother Teresa once said, "Some give by going, others go by giving ." This mission would not be possible without your support which allows me to encounter students on the Yard at USNA, lead Bible studies, and walk with students on their journey to sainthood in Heaven. If you might be interested in partnering with me on this mission or simply desire to learn more about it, I would love to meet with you! Please email me at [email protected] or call/text me at (860) 604-4388. I look forward to hearing from you!
