Where I serve
God has called me to serve at Louisiana State
University! Living in Baton Rouge is exciting to say the least, people welcome
you with open arms! The culture of the city, based around family and food, is
right up my ally! Along with the place I get to live in, I also have the chance
to serve alongside the best team of missionaries (and friends) that shape me and challenge me
to my calling of being a Beloved Daughter of the Father and to live out being
the best missionary I can.
Six hundred and eighty-nine miles, the distance from my hometown,
El Paso, Texas, to Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas. I entered
college in a land that was so far from what I knew my whole life. New city, new
school, new teachers, new extra curriculars, and new friends. Everything was
going to be different – which I was excited for. Upon entering college, I pledged
a sorority, Pi Beta Phi, in hopes of finding friends in this new foreign place.
Very quickly it became all too easy to be wrapped up in the typical college sorority
lifestyle. I played along because I wanted to find a place to belong and group
of people to call my own. I was always in shock at how little fulfillment that
these times brought me and would always go home feeling empty and alone – like something
My sophomore year of college I was invited to attend a FOCUS
conference, SEEK2017, in San Antonio, Texas. At this conference I realized that
in the ways I was living and all I was feeling, I was not alone. In this conference
I was able to listen to amazing talks, meet new people from Texas A&M – and
form friendships with them, and most importantly encounter Jesus in the
Eucharist in the most real way I have ever experienced. Coming back to campus
in my spring semester I lived a life of striving to change the way I was living
and live a life that focused and followed Christ. That all started with daily
prayer at the Chapel. I was plugged into a bible study and walked with in a discipleship
relationship with another women. During these times I was able to dive into
formation and uncover more about God’s love for my and the beauty of the
teaching of our Church. The Lord gave me the gift of the women that invested
time into me, and also the women that He gave me to lead in formation of their
faith. I have grown and been shaped in leading a bible study and discipling
other women throughout the remainder of my time in college. The Lord gave me the best friends and community of people to be shaped and formed by and I wouldn't be the person I am today it wasn't for His love being shown through them.
College is a terribly rough place to make it on your own. It’s
actually impossible to do. We are people that were made for relationship and for
communion with Jesus and with one and other. I am so blessed that I have the opportunity
to spend my time inspiring young women to encounter just that.
When I answered the call to join FOCUS, I made the decision to rely on the spiritual and financial support of mission partners to help me through this mission. I've been blessed with the most amazing people who have journeyed with me as I serve on campus. If you are interested in partnering with me, please let me know of the best way to reach you and I will schedule an appointment. I'd be honored to share this mission with you.
