God has called me to serve college students at the University of Iowa! Go Hawkeyes! I am very blessed and excited to be serving alongside my wonderful teammates, Alayna Moscinski, Caitlin Dempsey, Kobe Eischeid and my husband, Nathan Seiler. The Lord has radically transformed my life, and I can’t wait to see how He continues to work through this call to serve him as a missionary. When I was an incoming freshman at Indiana University, I was excited and terrified all at once. Coming to college was an opportunity for me to find a new group of friends, to experience independence for the first real time in my life, and decide who I wanted to be. Although I became somewhat acquainted with the Catholic Newman center on campus, my first few months of college were spent trying to pack in as many new and exciting experiences as I could, while fitting in Sunday masses. Seemingly enough, after the newness of college had worn off, I was tired. Despite having a group of friends, I felt empty and lonely. How could I feel lonely surrounded by so many people? And still, the questions: “Who am I?” and “Who do I want to become?” remained unclear in my mind.

It was through the gentle nudging of my Catholic friends and the investment of FOCUS missionaries on campus that I was drawn back into the Lord’s heart. Over the course of my time in college, I felt Jesus speak the words, “I know you” tenderly into my soul. He knows me, Carly, one of His Beloved members of His flock, individually. This truth that the Lord knows me, has always known me, and is with me at all times, transformed me. The Lord is not afraid to receive me in whatever state I come to Him in, because above all: I am His daughter – not the things that I do. All of this made me desire to give a deeper yes to Him, to share my life with Him, and listen to His voice when it calls. Over the course of my time in college and as I encountered the love and friendship of FOCUS missionaries, I have felt the most freedom and joy. I am beyond excited to live out mission full-time, and to be a witness to life with Christ.

When I answered the call to join FOCUS, I made the decision to rely on the spiritual and financial support of mission partners to help me through this mission. I’ve been blessed with the most amazing people who have journeyed with me as I serve on campus.
