Where I serve

God has called me to serve the college students at Cal State Fullerton You'll typically find me hanging out at the TSU, the gym, or the beach. I have a pretty sweet story about how Jesus has changed my life.

My Story

At the end of my freshman year of college, I encountered a Person who walked on this earth 2,000 years ago, died on a Cross, and rose from the dead for me.

During my senior year of high school outwardly everything seemed to be rolling along smoothly; but internally there was vague emptiness and gnawing dissatisfaction with my life.  Although, I had moments where I seemed genuinely happy, they seemed to fade fast and then this emptiness and restlessness returned.  By midway through freshman year at Virginia Tech, I was lonely, disconnected, and I was tumbling quickly downhill as I fell into a lifestyle of making bad decisions.

While trying to find some better friends, I joined a fraternity. On the Saturday night of our fraternity’s brotherhood retreat, I was tired of the constant partying swirling around me. I wandered up the mountain where the cabin was perched, and that walk changed my life forever. By this point in my college career, I could no longer drink and go to parties. Most of my friends abandoned me, and I was on academic probation. I joined the fraternity in a last-ditch attempt to find something to help me turn my life around, but when I reached an abandoned pool house on the top of the mountain, I sat down and wept. I realized that the life I was living was neither good nor fulfilling, and that it had to change, but I was terrified of what that meant. I had gone to Sunday Mass faithfully, but I left my faith in the chapel by noon every Sunday morning and I did not think that the Catholic faith I was raised in had anything to do with the deepest questions of life: who am I, what am I made for, and what will give my life meaning and purpose.

When I returned from that fraternity retreat, I went back to Mass again that next Sunday, more hopeless than ever. As I walked out of our underground chapel onto the Drillfield that morning of March 2013, a guy named Andrew introduced himself to me and asked if I wanted to grab lunch together. After hanging out a few times, he invited me to a Bible study he was leading off-campus with other freshmen guys like me; it was there that my life changed forever. In that Bible study, led by Andrew, a FOCUS missionary, I heard that Jesus Christ is a Person who is alive and real, and He wanted, and still wants, a personal relationship with me. As I began to develop friendships with the men in the group and study the Bible together, Jesus revealed Himself to me personally. For the first time in my life, the deep meaning and fulfillment that I had always yearned for, the love I always thought I had to earn but could never receive, the happiness I believed existed somewhere but not in my own heart, was all given to me. Looking at all my friends who didn't know how much Jesus loved for them and how that would change their lives, I hungered to share Him with them on campus.

I believe that the world changes person-to-person, one life at a time, and the college campus is the best place to reach future leaders and thus change the world. Andrew, a FOCUS missionary, had a team of mission partners who, through prayer and financial support, made it possible for my life to be changed for eternity.

Your Impact

After graduating, I said yes to investing my life in the young men of today to make the world better for tomorrow. I rely completely on the support of mission partners to fulfill the mission that God has entrusted to me. If you are interested in partnering with me, please let me know of the best way to reach you. I'd be honored to sit down with you to learn more about your story, share more of mine, and work together in this mission with you.
