Where I serve

I serve in the Marketing Department as a Jr. Social Media Coordinator for the Denver Support Center (formerly known as FOCUS headquarters). With my decision to saying “Yes” to Christ’s calling to serve in the Marketing department, am given the opportunity to use my knowledge and abilities to help scale our social presence and drive engagement with our online communities.

Our mission statement in marketing is that "We are collaborative storytellers who want to glorify god in all that we do.Therefore, we create, nurture and steward ideas and projects for FOCUS and build excellent print, web, video and social media materials so that all may know, love and serve God and other people."

Two years ago I served at the University of California, Santa Barbara as a campus missionary. It was a great experience reaching out to student leaders and empowering them to change the culture for Christ through mentorship, bible studies and outreach. I was honored to have served three great men at U.C. Santa Barbara. To see them grow as men, teach them to share the gospel and to give my whole life to them was beyond amazing. I was thankful to be their friend but humbled to be called their missionary. I was like their big brother, mentor, and friend that I never had.

Moving forward I’ll be revealing myself new ways of viewing the abilities of technology, digital media marketing and servant leadership that God has blessed me with in this organization.

My Story

As a child, I was not raised in Catholic family environment, school or home. I was exposed to Sunday school at the church but I would say that I am the only practicing Catholic in my family to this day. Throughout my time in high school I would attend mass on Sundays on my own but I did not have a full understanding of the mass. However, I grew attracted to the beauty of the mass every single week. It was not until I attended college at Arizona State University that I got deeper into my faith life. Once I left for college to study communications and music, I found the Newman center on campus via google search and volunteered my musical talents with the music ministry. From there I got involved in a FOCUS bible study and that's where my journey started. I was surprised to see how many students like myself were driven to being active in their Catholic faith while in college. That inspired me. Over time my mind changed of why I played music inside and outside of the church and how I was living out my life as a student.

After taking on a role of being a student leader in FOCUS, my heart for servant leadership had grown to a whole new level. I wanted to be part of the great commission of the church and take on the responsibilities while using my gifts of leadership and music to enrich the souls of my friends and peers on campus. Deep down I wanted to solve problems and help people express themselves to the world through God. After doing a mission trip in Kingston, Jamaica i felt a call to be a FOCUS missionary. In Winter 2014 I applied to be a missionary and accepted the role as a FOCUS missionary at the University of California, Santa Barbra.

Upon finishing my degree program at Arizona State University I turned down a job promotion with Apple as a senior technical advisor and left behind a potential music career as a drummer to serve God and the church so that I can spread the gospel to college students full time. I've always heard that true love requires sacrifice, and great success comes from great adversity. We're perplexed but never driven to despair. I’ve come to understand that we are not made for comfort but we are made for greatness. The mission of the church through FOCUS is the greatness I’ve found and that I'm called to follow.

With the role change I'm now a missionary to the missionaries thought the means of technology. Social media is a way for us to penetrate hearts using means that are relevant to today and It also enables communication, community, discipleship. We can serve a greater sense of community that doesn’t demand proximity. So with the responsibility that I been blessed with, I will insure that this mission reaches its full potential in FOCUS.
