Where I serve
I love purple and Kansas wildflowers, but what I love even more is that I get the opportunity to bring Jesus Christ and the Gospel to college students, share the richness of the Catholic faith with them, and invite them into the adventure that is Jesus' mission of "making disciples of all nations"! Jesus has called me to serve as a missionary at Kansas State University (go Wildcats!). I'm so excited about being placed at such a wonderful campus. This is the first year that FOCUS will be on Kansas State's campus. With this being said, I am extremely eager to meet the students and walk alongside them as they journey to experience Christ in a more intimate relationship.
My name is Jordan Gardenhire & I was born into a family with two faithful, Catholic parents. Growing up, we would go to Mass every Sunday without fail, but when I went to off to college at Texas A&M University, I attended Mass out of habit rather than love for God. Although I was raised in a phenomenal parish, by phenomenal parents, I didn't know Jesus personally.
Going into my Freshman year of college, I really believed there was only one way to do college: go to school, make your grades, and party hard. I didn't think that I was necessarily choosing the bad, but rather there was no other option. When I arrived in College Station, I did just that. I found myself seeking happiness through the things of this world. For me, it looked like having a lot of friends (even if they didn't care about my good), having a high GPA, being physically in shape, male attention, and parties. This life that I was living left me empty and alone. The Lord knew what I needed and he provided just that. My potluck roommate, Callyanne, was living a life of faithfulness. She knew Jesus Christ intimately, and because of this, she shined and was living in freedom. I was attracted to her freedom and confidence in her identity as a daughter of God. One night, during my freshman year, I became aware of how empty I was. I realized that these things that I thought were satisfying me were actually leaving me unfulfilled and desolate. This propelled me to ask the Lord to take away any sinful desires and provide a healthy community of believers.
My sophomore year, I was invited by a friend to attend a conference organized by FOCUS (The Fellowship of Catholic University Students). At the time, I agreed to go with the intent to establish friendships. At this point, I desired Christian community, but I was not sold out for Catholicism. I talked to Jesus and I read scripture, but once again, more out of obligation and routine. Little did I know, this SEEK conference would be my first real, intimate encounter with Jesus Christ. I met Jesus in the Eucharist and thought, "if the Eucharist is real, this changes everything!" I went back to campus, sought answers to my unanswered questions about Catholicism, began praying daily, and forming relationships at St. Mary's, our Catholic student center. My junior year, I met a FOCUS missionary on my campus named Fallon. Fallon challenged me to experience the Sacraments in a new & unique way. Fallon invited me into every area of her life - her friendships, her prayer, the Sacraments, etc. It is through this investment and friendship that I was formed spiritually, intellectually, and apostolicly. This empowered me to lead Bible studies, outreach events, and discipleships of my own. Through the Bible study I lead, I was able to form deep relationships with women and witness their hearts be transformed as they were encountering the Risen Lord. It was through this and the formation I received through discipleship with Fallon that my desire to spiritually multiply and continue to invite others was solidified. Life with Christ isn't always easy, but it is a wonderful adventure!
As a full-time missionary, I have the privilege of placing full trust in God by fundraising my entire mission budget. This is the beauty of the faith - Jesus does not want us to rely on ourselves, He wants us to rely on Him for everything! In order to radically invest in student’s lives at Kansas State University, I cannot fulfill this call to mission alone. I need your help! By generously joining this mission, you will be accompanying me in fulfilling the great commission, winning souls for Christ, and giving hope to this world! If you are interested in partnering with me, please let me know of the best way to reach you and I will schedule an appointment. I'd be honored to share this mission with you!
