Where I serve
I serve in the beautiful city of Vienna, Austria. It's the colliding point of Eastern and Western Europe. You can see it in the mixture of tiny Turkish restaurants shoved between well-established Viennese coffee houses. You can see it in the smattering of Liederhosen (traditional Austrian leather pants) mixed with modern clothes at Mass. You can see it in the architecture, the language, and customs.
Because it's such an international city, the people we get to work with are from all over the world. It's not uncommon to walk into a conversation where multiple languages are being used interchangeably, many different accents, histories, and cultural norms.
We have had the great joy and privilege of starting Bible studies for the students studying at the several universities located in Vienna. At one of my weekly Bible studies, we had English, Persian, Italian, Polish, Spanish and German bibles to discuss Christ's Passion on the Cross. It's so cool to see how language makes you understand each scripture passage so differently.
Overall, Jesus doesn't belong to just one culture, language, or style; He can (and does) reach us with whatever is around us. This is the beauty seeing as a missionary in Europe.
During college, I heard a quote, "Would the boy you were be proud of the man you are today?" This profound question lead me to look at life as just stagnant and empty. Having joined a social fraternity my freshman year, I soon got carried away with the party scene and began to drift away from my faith. With all the instant gratification going on, I was living in a community that produced boys instead of men.
But God never intends us to live such mediocre lives and is constantly doing things to let us see the light. With the help of FOCUS missionaries throughout college, they have challenged me to really know who I was and how I was made with a purpose. They explained how having a personal relationship with Christ was going to fulfill the holes partying was never going to. I learned to let go of many things and start living for Christ! And what a beautiful ride it has been since!
Pope Benedict said it perfectly " If we let Christ into our lives, we lose nothing, nothing, absolutely nothing of what makes life free, beautiful and great...Do not be afraid of Christ! He takes nothing away, and he gives you everything. When we give ourselves to him, we receive a hundredfold in return. Yes, open, open wide the doors to Christ and you will find true life.”
As a result, I have decided to be a FOCUS missionary and lead students to have a personal relationship with Christ and his Church! Our vision is to reach out to students of the importance of Christ and lead them to become the men they were meant to be.
If you feel the Lord invited to join this mission somehow, consider supporting me financially and with many prayers so I can be radically available to these students. Your sponsorship enables me too...

"I would not be where I am today without the amazing impact FOCUS has had. Their mission of continued intentionality and outreach on college campuses has not only impacted my life, but countless others across the United States. In fact, it has personally impacted me so much that I am now becoming a full time FOCUS missionary to further aid in their efforts." - Andy Thompson, FOCUS Missionary at The University of Pittsburgh
"Kenny's success as a missionary has everything to do with the graces of the Holy Spirit being poured out on the Fellowship of Catholic University Students, an organization that is literally setting the whole world ablaze with Christ’s gospel message." - Gino Carnevale, Student at Ball State
Please pray for this mission of FOCUS and for me during this time! God bless you!
