Where I serve
This academic year (2017-8), God has called me to return to Belmont Abbey College in Belmont, NC. I'm very eager to serve there for a second year - resuming the Christ-centered friendships I've already made or begun with so many student-athletes.
My spiritual language is always affected by what I'm reading. Having recently read The Name of God is Mercy by Pope Francis, I realize that I'm a sinner who longs for Mercy and finds it on mission.
The joy of mission is encountering and re-encountering the Mercy of the Father in the Sacraments and prayer with the student-athletes on campus.
As we grow in friendship, they begin to lead me on their own path to Mercy, and this new vantage point of Mercy, the fulfillment of all desire, and the sight of a student as a missionary - these are the joys of mission. They confirm for me this statement of the late Fr. Henri Nouwen, one of my favorite spiritual authors:
Ministry is primarily "receiving the gift of the other."
I'd love to tell you some particular stories about these encounters with God and the students on campus. Until then, please see for yourself at https://capitvates.shutterfly.com.
When I answered the call
to join FOCUS, I made the decision to rely on the spiritual and financial
support of mission partners to help me through this mission. I've been blessed with
the most amazing people who have journeyed with me as I serve on campus, e.g. Kaylene, with whom I renewed my Marian Consecration, or Chris, who constantly reminds of the spiritual power of music.
are interested in partnering with me, please let me know of the best way to
reach you (email [email protected]) and we will schedule an appointment. I'd be honored to share
this mission with you.
