Where I serve

What's up?! My name is Mae and I am a first-year FOCUS missionary at the University of Texas--Austin! GO LONGHORNS! You'll typically find me having coffee (or ice cream!) dates with students, hanging around the Catholic Center, or making new friends on campus! I'm super excited to share my story and faith with all those I encounter! If you ever want to hear how God rocked my world-- just ask me! My mission is to love and spread the Truth of the Gospel by forming authentic relationships with those I encounter on campus and teaching them to do the same!

My Story

During the first two years of my undergrad, my faith life was a struggle. I was a student at community college in my hometown of Paducah, KY. While I had the support of amazing friends, I lacked a strong faith community that was focused on the study of the Gospel and the Faith. Honestly, if it wasn't for my involvement with my diocesan summer camp, Gasper River, and the fervor of the Summer Staff and the support of that community, I do not know if I would have realized the importance of Truth and the Faith!

When I transferred to the University of Kentucky in the fall of 2018, I knew I needed a strong, encouraging community to keep my faith alive. So, I decided to become involved at the Newman Center and, from there, was invited to join a Bible Study. Then a couple months later I started hearing about this "discipleship" thing and decided to ask one of the FOCUS Missionaries on our campus what that was all about-- little did I know that in the next couple of months, I would enter into a formal discipleship with one of my now closest friends (who I get to be the Maid of Honor for!) as well as invite a friend into a discipleship relationship with me and lead my first ever Bible Study!

Since then, I was honored to partner with FOCUS Missions on a trip to Denver, CO where we were able to minister to our brothers and sisters in Christ who struggle with homelessness. While on that trip, my friendship with another UK student began to blossom and ultimately led to me becoming her discipler during my senior year. Through this relationship and my own knowledge of the necessity of community, I began to realize the importance of vulnerability and accompaniment in personal relationships and the effect that such relationships can have on the faith journey of an individual. This realization along with the encouragement of my friends, family, and the FOCUS team on my campus ultimately led me to apply to be a FOCUS missionary... and after one fun Recruitment Weekend, lots of prayer, anxious discernment, and one big "Yes!", here I am!!

Your Impact

When I answered the call to join FOCUS, I made the decision to rely on the spiritual and financial support of mission partners to join me in this mission! If you are interested in partnering with me, please let me know of the best way to reach you and we can schedule an appointment. I'd be honored to have you accompany me in this mission.
