Matt Leffel

Hey! My name is Matt, and I'm a FOCUS missionary and the Team Director at the University of Maine in Orono, Maine.  This is my fourth year as a missionary and second year as the Team Director.  I am from the Eastern Shore of Virginia, and I graduated from Virginia Tech.  I decided to become a missionary because there was a missionary at Virginia Tech that was there for me when I needed a good friend and he pulled me out of a hard time.  I want to share who Jesus is with the students at the university, and let Him transform their lives.

Where I serve

God has called me to serve college students. You'll typically find me hanging out by the river, in the Newman Center, or kicking a soccer ball around campus. I have a pretty cool story about how Jesus has changed my life, and I think you should hear it sometime! Come find me and I'd love to share it with you.

My Story

As a missionary, my greatest desire is to lead all students to Christ. My life has been transformed by Jesus and I want nothing more than to bring this joy to others.  It was in my junior year when my life was changed after a FOCUS mission trip to Guyana in South America.  While down there I found God and realized I was missing out on something big in life.  The mission trip made me realize that I could be doing so much more to be living out my faith.  After I got back, I got in touch with the FOCUS missionary at Virginia Tech and he really showed me some some ways I could dive deeper into my faith.  I know some of the struggles that some young college men are going through even though it looks like they have it all together.  I want to be able to stretch out a helping hand to pull them back up when they are down.  Also I love the adventure aspect of FOCUS and I am excited to be meeting many new people.  I am really excited to head to Maine and start my mission as a campus missionary.

Your Impact

When I answered the call to join FOCUS, I made the decision to rely on the spiritual and financial support of mission partners to help me through this mission. I've been blessed with the most amazing people who have journeyed with me as I serve on campus. If you are interested in partnering with me, please let me know of the best way to reach you and I will schedule an appointment. I'd be honored to share this mission with you.
