I am currently serving as a FOCUS Missionary at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma. My mission here is primarily to serve the female athletes as a Varsity Catholic missionary. My typical day involves praying a Holy Hour, attending daily mass, leading Bible studies, mentoring female students, attending campus ministry events at St. Thomas More, and being Christ's hands and feet in whatever way He asks of me.
Upon entering college at Nicholls State University, I was grounded in my Catholic faith, thanks to my family as well as my Catholic education. During my freshman year at Nicholls, I remember having a deep longing in my heart. Not only did I desire a deeper relationship with Jesus but I also desired guidance. I prayed for God to send me an older sister who could understand my struggles and serve as a role model teaching me how to live a good life in a college world.
The Lord answered my prayer when He placed a FOCUS missionary named Maegan Martin at Nicholls. Her friendship throughout my college years made a huge impact on me and many of my softball teammates.
Maegan's vulnerability and unconditional love showed me the beauty of authentic friendship. She challenged me, held me accountable, and helped me grow in my relationships with others as well as with Jesus. She helped me to start a Bible study for my softball team, which built up a strong community of girls striving to live holy lives. Maegan also encouraged me to make adoration and daily mass a priority, which gave Jesus the opportunity to completely fulfill my heart with His truth, beauty, and goodness.
It is now my duty to create this kind of college experience for other female student-athletes. Every person deserves to know the love that God our Father desires to give us. My mission is not to be anyone's savior but to point the girls I serve to Jesus, the only one who can completely fulfill our hearts.
My deepest desire is to be a big sister and a role model to those who are searching for something more in their lives. Because I am called to be radically available to the girls I serve, the mission work that I have the honor of doing is my full-time job. I trust that God will provide everything that I need. If you would like to be part of my mission by supporting me financially, I would love to have you on my support team as a mission partner. We encounter God in an intimate relationship through daily prayer, the sacraments and the Scriptures.
By building genuine friendships, we meet students on a deeper level.
We teach students how to share the gospel, who in turn teach other students how to pass it on …
