We encounter God in an intimate relationship through daily prayer, the sacraments and the Scriptures.
“I sense that the moment has come to commit all of the Church’s energies to a new evangelization . . . No believer in Christ, no institution of the Church can avoid this supreme duty: to proclaim Christ to all peoples.” – St. John Paul II
Hello, My name is Tynan Bollinger, and I serve as the Team Director at New Mexico State in Las Cruces, New Mexico! Go Aggies!
You’ll typically find me on campus in Las Cruces grabbing coffee with students, hiking the nearby trails, playing basketball with guys at the rec, or at St. Albert the Great for Mass.
Above: The 2023-2024 FOCUS team at New Mexico State! (Hunter, Paulina, Cecilia, and myself)
My first encounter with FOCUS came during my freshman year in college when I entered a campus of 28,000 students at the University of Kansas. A small town kid on a big university campus was an adjustment within itself, but little did I know what was in store. It was during that freshman year, in the rush of transition and engineering classes that I met an older student named Sam who invited me into his FOCUS bible study. There, on those Wednesday nights, I saw my life transformed by Christ through Sam’s friendship, witness, and own desire for a relationship with Jesus. He challenged me to also choose a relationship with Jesus, and to share the reality of the Gospel with other men. Soon after, that spring semester, I started leading a bible study, began investing in men, walking with them and introducing them to the transformative life found in a relationship with Jesus Christ.
In His ministry on earth, Jesus humbled Himself to meet us on our level, taking on our humanity and spent most of His time investing deeply in a few people so as to reach the masses. I look to Jesus’s own example to find the best method of reaching the world. In going to the college campus, perhaps the most pivotal and most needed place for Christ. The transformed lives of a few men and women on campus has the potential to change the trajectory and culture of our world.
When I answered the call to join FOCUS, I made the decision to rely on the spiritual and financial support of mission partners to help me through this mission. I’ve been blessed with the most amazing people who have journeyed with me as I serve on campus. If you are interested in partnering with me, please let me know of the best way to reach you and I will schedule an appointment. I’d be honored to share this mission with you. Feel free to reach out to me by email or phone at [email protected] or 785-741-5288.
We encounter God in an intimate relationship through daily prayer, the sacraments and the Scriptures.
By building genuine friendships, we meet students on a deeper level.
We teach students how to share the gospel, who in turn teach other students how to pass it on.
