As Always, Our Hope Is in Jesus Christ

“Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”
(Philippians 4:6 – 7)

Each year during the Lenten season, we prepare ourselves for the resurrection and eternal life we find in Jesus Christ. This Lent, the outbreak of COVID-19 has presented us with a situation few have experienced in our lifetimes.

When we reflect upon these current circumstances, we must remember: Lent is not about just this moment, but rather about our journey to eternal life and the love and mercy God offers us through the resurrection.

During this time of transition, we are guiding our missionaries on how to live and serve in a COVID-19 world. For the sake of the tens of thousands of souls we reach each year, FOCUS is continuing our work of evangelization and the pursuit of a deeper relationship with Christ.

While the COVID-19 crisis has closed college campuses, led to the suspension of public Masses and eliminated many group gatherings, FOCUS is continuing our work of evangelization. In fact, we are working harder than ever — because we know this is a time when people need hope, and hearts are more open than ever to the Gospel.

Here is what’s happening right now at FOCUS:

  • Our missionaries are continuing their daily outreach by connecting and discipling others via video platforms (made possible by FOCUS supporters).
  • Missionaries and students are offering holy hours every day, caring for each other and lifting you and all those they serve in prayer.
  • We continue to support our current student leaders and alumni in their important work as missionary disciples.

Most importantly, we are keeping our eyes — and our hope — fixed on Christ.

This current moment represents for us yet another opportunity to receive God and His grace. So, while Masses are being livestreamed and many Catholics are worshipping privately and virtually, we invite you to also engage in this divine intimacy.

We invite you to offer holy hours every day alongside FOCUS missionaries and students.

And we invite you, through your prayers and support, to continue to partner with FOCUS to reach those souls who are reaching out to Christ.

Please join FOCUS as we pray for those across the world affected in any way by COVID-19 and as we continue this important work of bringing God’s love and mercy to the world.

Sincerely in Christ,

Curtis A. Martin,
