Christine Joy Moran

Hi there! My name’s Joy. I’m a FOCUS missionary at the University of California, Irvine.

Where I serve

Welcome friends! I’m so excited to be coming back to the University of California, Irvine as a second-year FOCUS Missionary! I am continually graced by His abundance and entrustment of walking with amazing women on this beautiful campus. You can typically find me cooking meals and hosting friends, playing at the beach, or finding the best boba in town. Come join me on my adventure! Go anteaters!

My Story

Mother Teresa once said, In the West, there is a loneliness, which I call the leprosy of the West. In many ways, it is worse than our poor in Calcutta.”
Throughout my time in high school and early college, I was thirsting for true purpose and intimacy from counterfeit remedies that never satisfied me. I hid behind busying myself with schoolwork, stretching myself thin to get involved, and grasping for any outlet of feeling approved and wanted. Like myself, the vast majority of college students hide behind their accolades and achievements under the guise of loneliness. Though I grew up in a culturally-Catholic Filipino household, I believed in the lie that I was meant to live my life alone, devoid of true relationships and friendships. When we glorify a culture that perpetuates this notion of success and money as the highest form of achievement that one can attain (especially for coming from a first-generation immigrant family), we end up alone and devoid of our true purpose which is to know and be in relationship with Jesus Christ.
Through the “yes” of two FOCUS missionaries at Kansas State, Kelly and Stephie, they invested years of their time, effort, and prayer for the conversion of my soul. Small pursuits of friendship and discipleship from them looked like eating pizza rolls late at night to getting me coffee after an all-nighter from the studio at the architecture school. One of my favorite moments was even simply just picking me up to pray at the local parish in front of the Blessed Sacrament. These two women taught me that I was made for relationship with others and for others, primarily with the One True God. The introduction of truth that the Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches us that “God, infinitely perfect and blessed in himself, in a plan of sheer goodness freely created man to make him share in his own blessed life” (CCC 1). You too, no matter who you are, are called into deep intimacy with Jesus Christ.
This is my 2nd-year on mission with FOCUS:
  • Graduated with a Masters Degree in Architecture from Kansas State University, Class of 2022
  • Serving at the University of California, Irvine (2022-2023)

Your Impact

When I answered the call to join FOCUS, I made the decision to rely on the spiritual and monthly financial support of mission partners to help me through this mission. I’ve been blessed with the most amazing people who have journeyed with me as I serve on campus. If you are interested in partnering with me and supporting me at a monthly basis, please let me know of the best way to reach you and I will schedule a phone call or an appointment. I’d be honored to share this mission with you.
